hedgehog emergency rescue, bingley, Yorkshire (hERBY) 07787314590
Our new website is still incubating, please go to our social media for additional information.
Voluntary roles are listed at the bottom of the page
If you would like to help by donating to the care of our patients the rescue currently costs between £1000 and £1500 per month to run depending on the season. We are, however, currently facing an unprecedented demand due to the large influx of hoglets. Hoglets are the most expensive to rehabilitate because of the length of time they are in, the cost of the equipment needed and their specialist diet.

Volunteering with us
The rescue has a number of local voluntary and placement roles available, please email us or contact us privately through social media to be given more details, we are currently looking for
Social Media Co-ordinator
You will need to be local, be able to film, edit and produce social media content. This role is estimated to be three hours per week but can be more if it is for a placement opportunity.
Stall Fundraising Team Members
You will need to be local, volunteering within the current team organising, setting up and manning the stalls we have at local events, we also need people willing to visit the locations that fundraise for us (the latter will require your own transport). These roles are usually a few hours per week but not every week, often at weekends.
Fundraising Board Members
This is our least local role and will be focussed on supersizing HERBY and aiming at our estimated £750,000 target. You will need to be social and enjoy networking. Around 6 hours per month some of which will be via a Zoom style platform, the time spent is up to you so if you want to do more then we would be grateful.
Emergency Transport Volunteers
A team of local, trained (by us) transporters with their own vehicle able to collect a hedgehog and transport it to rescue or a vet at short notice. You don't have to be available all the time and it is very ad hoc. This is a group of people who just respond to a call out, most transport is around BD postcodes but can cover some LS, HX, HD and WF.
Emergency Helpers
A team of very local, available at short notice volunteers who have an obsession with something like Dr Pimple Popper! You would be removing ticks and flystrike after considerable training and under supervision at the rescue. This task can take us several hours and needs to be done at speed. Doesn't suit everyone! You need to be over 18 for this one. This is a fast moving role, as in, if we aren't fast at doing it, things don't go well!
Hoglet Feeders
People willing to come to the rescue every few hours and feed the hoglets. This is a very difficult role and isn't as cute as it sounds. Little lives depend on us so it requires care, precision and extensive training. You don't have to do every shift, the idea is that there are enough of us that it all gets covered, bit like painting the proverbial Forth Road Bridge! You must be over 16 to do this role. Babies are fed from 6am to midnight roughly every three to four hours and it depends how many hoglets need feeding as to how long it takes! Do not apply for this thinking it will be adorable, it is hard!
