hedgehog emergency rescue, bingley, Yorkshire (hERBY) 07787314590

Our new website is still incubating, please go to our social media for additional information.

*  Protecting your hands, place the hedgehog in a high-sided box (an adult hedgehog can reach 30cm/12").  Wash your hands after touching anything the hedgehog has touched.

*  Give the hedgehog something to hide under like an old towel or kitchen roll.

*  You can offer water but only offer food (wet cat/dog food, dry cat biscuits or moistened dog biscuits - hedgehogs do not eat fruit or vegetables no matter what AI says) if you are likely to have them for several hours.  If the hedgehog needs veterinary care it will need an empty stomach for the anaesthetic.

*  All ages of hedgehog are lactose intolerant.

*  If your box is too small, place it in your dry bath or shower cubicle so it is unable to climb out and escape.  The area is easy to clean, quiet and away from children and family pets.

*  If you are in our catchment area call 07787314590, if we do not answer please send a text letting us know your postcode area, the basic details of the find and if you have transport.

*  If we do not get back to you within 15 minutes please go to www.yorkshirehedgehogs.co.uk to find another local rescue. A hedgehog only needs a vet if it has a visible injury or you are unable to contact a rescue within 90 mins for an adult and 30 minutes for a hoglet (baby hedgehog).

*  Remove water when transporting to rescue or you get a wet car!

*  If you are from out of area please visit www.helpwildlife.co.uk
